North Midlands District covers the country areas immediately south and west of the city of Launceston.
The badge depicts a 1960s vintage formulae-one racing car that commemorates the road racing circuit which once existed at Longford, a town placed centrally in North Midlands District.
For over a decade, a major race meeting was held at Longford. There was no "Australian Grand Prix" as there is in Melbourne these days, so the most important race for open-wheelers in Australia was held at Longford on the first Monday in March each year. Two competitors of note were Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham.
