Who Can Attend?

The Australian Jamboree is an amazing opportunity for young people and adults from across Australia to come together for an unforgettable Scouting experience.

To ensure every participant can safely enjoy all that AJ2028 has to offer, there are a number of eligibility requirements set by both the Australian Jamboree Organising Committee and the Tasmanian Contingent.

These requirements help ensure participants are appropriately prepared for the physical, social and personal challenges of a large-scale event, while also supporting the safety and wellbeing of everyone attending.

Jamboree is much more than a camp—it is ten days of adventure, teamwork, independence, responsibility and fun. Participants should be ready to embrace new experiences, work cooperatively with others, and contribute positively to the Scouting community.

Attendance criteria vary depending on whether you are attending as a Scout, Venturer, Rover, Leader or Adult Helper, and include factors such as age, membership status, training, camping experience, personal readiness and required clearances.

The Tasmanian Contingent Leadership Team is committed to providing every participant with the best possible Jamboree experience. As part of this commitment, all applications will be reviewed to ensure the eligibility requirements have been met. Approval to attend remains at the discretion of the Tasmanian Contingent Leader, who reserves the right to decline applications that do not satisfy the published criteria or where participation may not be in the best interests of the individual or the Contingent.

We encourage all prospective participants and their families to review the requirements carefully and speak with their Unit Leader if they have any questions about their eligibility or readiness for AJ2028.

Attendance Criteria

AJ2028 is designed to be a safe, rewarding and memorable experience for everyone involved. To help participants get the most from the Jamboree, all attendees must meet the eligibility requirements outlined below.

These requirements ensure participants have the necessary Scouting experience, skills and maturity to successfully take part in this major event and contribute positively to the Tasmanian Contingent.

Scouts

The Australian Jamboree is primarily designed for Scouts and represents the pinnacle of the Scout Section experience. To attend as a Scout, participants must demonstrate a level of camping experience, outdoor skills and personal readiness that will enable them to confidently take part in all aspects of Jamboree life.

To attend AJ2028 as a Scout, you must:

  • Be a current registered and financial Scout member at the time of application and remain registered through until at least 11 January 2028.
  • Be under 15 years of age on 29 December 2027 (born after 29 December 2011).
  • Have achieved, prior to 1 December 2027:
    • Program Essentials Milestone 1.
    • Outdoor Adventure Skills Stage 3 in Bushcraft, Bushwalking and Camping.
  • Have completed at least 10 nights camping under canvas with your Unit or Patrol, including at least three consecutive nights.
  • Obtain approval from your Unit Council.
  • Have parent or guardian consent.
  • Be considered by your parents/guardians and Unit Council to have the maturity, behaviour and resilience required to participate successfully.
  • Be approved by the Tasmanian Contingent Leader.

Venturers – Service Leader Roles

Venturers attending AJ2028 play an important role in helping deliver activities and supporting the Scout participants. Service Leaders gain valuable leadership, teamwork and event-management experience while enjoying the excitement of Australia's largest Scouting event.

To attend as a Venturer Service Leader, you must:

  • Have a genuine desire to provide service to Scouts and the Jamboree community.
  • Be at least 16 years old before 29 December 2027 (born before 29 December 2010).
  • Be a current registered and financial Youth Member through until at least 7 January 2028.
  • Have completed, prior to 1 December 2027:
    • Program Essentials Milestone 1.
    • Outdoor Adventure Skills Stage 5 in Bushcraft, Bushwalking and Camping.
  • Be recommended by your Unit Council and Venturer Scout Leader as a person of excellent character and a positive role model.
  • Demonstrate the skills and abilities required for your nominated role.
  • Have parent or guardian consent.
  • Hold a current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration and any Victorian equivalent required.
  • Be approved by the Tasmanian Contingent Leader.

Rovers

Rovers are an essential part of every Australian Jamboree. They provide vital support across activities, operations, logistics and participant services, helping create an exceptional experience for thousands of Scouts.

To attend AJ2028 as a Rover, you must:

  • Be a current registered and financial Rover Scout through until at least 7 January 2028.
  • Be at least 18 years old before the opening day of the Jamboree and no older than 26 years of age on 7 January 2028.
  • Hold a current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People registration and any Victorian equivalent required.
  • Have current Child Safe Scouting and WHS for Scouting on-demand training valid through to at least 7 January 2028.
  • Be recommended by your Rover Unit Council as a person of excellent character and a positive role model for younger members.
  • Demonstrate the skills and capabilities required for your nominated role.
  • Be approved by the Tasmanian Contingent Leader.

Leaders

Leaders attending AJ2028 will support youth members while helping deliver a safe, enjoyable and successful Jamboree experience. Due to the scale and demands of the event, Leaders must be appropriately trained, endorsed and physically prepared.

To attend as a Leader, you must:

  • Hold a current Certificate of Proficiency through until at least 11 January 2028.
  • Hold a current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People registration and any Victorian equivalent required.
  • Have current Child Safe Scouting and WHS for Scouting training valid through until at least 7 January 2028.
  • Be recommended by your Formation Leader.
  • Be approved by the Tasmanian Contingent Leader.
  • Be prepared to meet the physical and practical demands of the event.

Other Adult Members

Adult Members such as Fellowship members, Office Holders and other support personnel play a valuable role in helping the Tasmanian Contingent operate successfully throughout the Jamboree.

To attend as an Adult Member, you must:

  • Be a current registered Adult Member with a valid Certificate of Adult Membership through until at least 11 January 2028.
  • Hold a current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People registration and any Victorian equivalent required.
  • Have current Child Safe Scouting and WHS for Scouting training valid through until at least 7 January 2028.
  • Be recommended by your Team Leader.
  • Be approved by the Tasmanian Contingent Leader.
  • Be prepared to meet the physical and practical requirements of the role and event.

Final Approval

Meeting the eligibility requirements does not automatically guarantee acceptance into the Tasmanian Contingent. All applications will be assessed in accordance with Scouts Tasmania and Australian Jamboree policies. Final approval for attendance rests with the Tasmanian Contingent Leader.
